Household budget calculator3/19/2023 ![]() But paying your credit cards down has two other benefits: you'll shoot your credit score back up by keeping your utilized credit under 35 percent and you'll simultaneously have an emergency fund to dip into.Īnd speaking of which, savings. Banks absolutely love it when you pay them off and immediately rack them back up again, paying those fees every month. Pay off your damn credit cards and get some emergency savings.Ĭredit cards are not free money - at least not for you. Despite the junk older folks like to talk about those damned irresponsible millennials with their emojis and snap tweets, we're actually a fairly fiscally responsible bunch. This is the area of our budget that differs the most from the usual ones you'll find. ![]() This budget is a general guideline for the average college graduate, while acknowledging that there are no unbreakable rules - you're allowed to tweak the ratios, as long as you keep in mind that something's got to give somewhere. The problem with this approach is its rigidity and the fact that it doesn't address the concerns that recent college graduates have, like crippling student loan debt.Īfter all, how much sense does it really make to put your money into a money market account yielding a 1.5 percent return when you've got a private loan accruing at 12 percent? Or to invest in your 401k when your company only matches two percent?Īctually, you should absolutely always do that because it's free money, but you get the point. This is stuff like dining out, gas, and shopping that you can't always set an exact budget for. Flexible Spending - Keep your flex spending that changes from month to month (and your fun money) to no more than 30 percent of your take home cash. ![]() Financial Goals - Put at least 20 percent of your take home pay toward important loan payments, retirement, or building your financial security. We're talking subscriptions to Netflix, rent, gym memberships, insurance, and anything else that you can rely on hitting your bank account on a regular basis. Fixed Costs - These costs are predictable and won't change, unless you cancel them.If you're not familiar with how it works, it goes a little something like this: Our budget is more or less a variation on the tried-and-true 50/20/30 rule that allows for the flexibility and priorities that a recent college graduate has. Sometimes, you might need to live under a staircase in order to afford that Nimbus 2000.īut here are two other statistics about millennials financial planning from that same study: one in three says they spend money budgeted for other things on themselves and one quarter says financial anxiety makes them bill weekly or monthly.Īnd there's simply no need for that - check out our instant college grad budget to get your money and mind right. If you have a devastatingly expensive gaming habit, then you might sacrifice a few meals out for high-speed internet and a revolving door of video games. It's a tradeoff - hence, you have to trade something. In a walkable city, your transportation costs will be lower while your rent is higher, and with no student loan debt you've got more flexibility for saving and investing. Ok, real talk - you probably spend too much money, even if you're part of the one in four surveyed millennials who thinks they're a "highly disciplined" financial planner.īut budgets are tricksy, and it's rare to find one that fits a recent college grad instead of a well-established family - and individual circumstances and priorities vary fairly broadly even within the generation.

Word build online trial lesson3/19/2023 ![]() For Elements, the activity pages are in an appendix within the student workbook. The activity pages are in the separate, 20-page Foundations Basics workbook. In Foundations, these lessons introduce the concepts of compound words, prefixes, and suffixes. ![]() The first course in both Foundations and Elements begins with some preparatory lessons that differ from the format described. Students needing remedial work might start at the lower level even if beyond fifth grade. Notice that fifth graders could start in either series. That means that students in grades 2-5 should start with Foundations 1 and students in grades 5-8 (or above) should start in Elements 1. In addition, students should always start in the first book of either Foundations or Elements. However, Elements might also be used at high school level, so do not adhere strictly to these grade level suggestions. Elements 1, 2, and 3 are suggested for grades 5-6, 6-7, and 7-8 respectively. Elements lessons conclude with a multiple-choice assessment.įoundations 1 and 2 courses are suggested for students in grades 2-4 and 4-5 respectively. The latter activity should be completed interactively while the comprehension page can be done independently at this level. Day four in Elements has two options: a fill-in-the-blanks comprehension activity and/or completing a “word wall” form by listing words along with synonyms and antonyms plus prefixes, suffixes, and roots used in these words. Elements books continue on the third day with a stair-step “puzzle” activity. Lessons conclude with a fill-in-the-blank activity. Foundations lessons continue with a word search activity to create words around the selected affix, using new words derived from the week's affix. Students can self-check because the numbers in the Magic Square should all add up to the same sum when added horizontally or vertically. By properly connecting words and their definitions, students identify which number goes in each square of the Magic Square. The second page of Elements lessons and the third page of Foundations lessons feature a Magic Square puzzle. In the Foundations books, the second page of each lesson continues with an exercise to combine the featured affix with other word elements, come up with definitions, then write meaningful sentences using each word. Discussion is required to ensure that students have correctly grasped the meanings of words. Students begin by creating words from these elements and coming up with their own definitions. In the three Elements courses students learn the 93 most-commonly used roots from Latin and Greek along with prefixes and suffixes that form those roots into thousands of words.Įach lesson in Foundations begins with an “Affix Square,” a 3-by-3 block of nine squares while Elements lessons begin with a similar "Roots Square." The center square contains the prefix, suffix or root surrounded by words or word elements in the other eight squares. Students study compound words, prefixes and suffixes, and they learn spelling and grammar rules for adding suffixes and prefixes. In the two Foundations level courses, vocabulary study is based on common words taken from content-area textbooks. Tales of symphonia colette a a defend3/19/2023 ![]() As the party moves from one Seal to the next, Colette begins to gain more angelic powers, including angel wings, enhanced sight, and improved hearing. Eventually, Lloyd and Genis catch up with Colette and, having nowhere else to go after their banishment from Iselia, are permitted to travel with her on the World Regeneration Journey. As she is leaving, she acts, in Genis's words, "overly cheerful" in an attempt to hide the fact that the Journey of Regeneration will end in her death. Trying to cause her trusted friend Lloyd the least amount of grief, she lies to him about the time of her departure, in the hope that he will then be able to live in the regenerated world.Ĭolette leaves the village of Iselia under the protection of Kratos and Raine Sage, her teacher. Lloyd, who had just found out that his mother was murdered by Desians, asks to accompany Colette on her journey. The night before she leaves on her journey, Colette visits Lloyd at his house and says what she believes will be her final goodbye to him. Colette will be sacrificed, unbeknownst to Lloyd and Genis, and the dying world will be regenerated. The fifth and final seal is at the Tower of Salvation, where Colette's journey will end. The end of the Day of Prophecy marks the beginning of Colette's Journey of Regeneration, which entails releasing the five seals that are scattered throughout the world. Because of his angel status, he is initially believed to be Colette's "real father", although Colette does not feel like he is her actual father, a fact she admits later on. At the highest level of the temple, the angel Remiel arrives to convey the blessings of Cruxis and bestow the Tower of Salvation upon Sylvarant. Colette, accompanied by Lloyd and Genis, head for the Martel Temple only to find it under attack by the Renegades, who are mistaken for Desians by the trio. On Colette's sixteenth birthday, Cruxis sends down an Oracle. Sometime later, Genis Sage joined in their circle of friendship. She and the young Lloyd soon became friends. She then started her formal education at the Iselia schoolhouse, where she met Lloyd Irving. She also met the priests who were meant to accompany her on this journey. As she got older, she was introduced to the clergy, some of whom she would later encounter during her Journey of World Regeneration. At some point during the early years of her childhood, Colette was taught how to read angelic language. She was brought up with the knowledge that she would need to die in order to save the world, causing her to gain a truly selfless nature, although she hid this fact from her closest friends. The game’s first conversation sets a horrible example for the rest of the game, even if it thankfully ends up being perhaps the worst offender. The dialogue often undermines the depth of its impact. This freedom comes with drawbacks, as they always seem to with Piranha Bytes’ games. Jax can be anything fromYou play as the Jax you wish to see in this world, and the world tends to react in kind. Want to take the invading forces big guns on? Then set Jax up to become a walking war machine. Need to head into an irradiated area, probably best to boost Jax’s resistance to it. This system informs how you end up tackling ELEX II. Skill trees with only a limited amount of leveling points to play for allows for some flexibility in playstyle whilst not making Jax overpowered. Conversations are meaningful, and offer up consequences for a surprisingly large amount of your choices. You could say Piranha Bytes is simply taking its ‘throw everything at it’ approach to everything, and this is just a consequence, but it largely works quite well as a combination.Īlso key to this freedom is interaction with NPCs and Jax’s abilities. The mixture of science fiction and high fantasy means you’re just as likely to see monolithic high-tech facilities as you are an enchanted forest or a Raptor. Little flourishes of identity show it’s not always about how much power you pack into your visuals.Īdding to that sense of discovery is just how varied Magalan is. ![]() ELEX II has unpolished beauty to its world that surprises you when it pops up in an otherwise typical setting. You could point to any number of breathtaking open worlds that fail to encourage wonder and curiosity because they signpost too much. Coupled with an upgradable jetpack, it actually makes exploration seem worthwhile, like there could be an intriguing new discovery just beyond every horizon, and in truth, that’s often the case in ELEX II. You’re free to explore wherever you wish, with the rather obvious warning that some places will be beyond your current capabilities. Its structure is much closer to the ambiguity and freedom of mid-2000s RPGs, and this is inarguably the game’s greatest strength, even if Piranha Bytes struggles to keep it all packed into a sturdy and resilient package. It’d be fair to say ELEX II likes to stay in the past despite its science-fiction nature. Now severely weakened, Jax grumpily goes about the business of fighting back against the invading enemy and bringing relative peace once more. So of course, he’s proved right as ELEX II begins with Jax’s shack being destroyed by alien forces and him being left for dead. They’ve not listened to his warnings of an impending alien threat for years as they bicker over the precious ELEX. It sees protagonist Jax in a bit of a funk on the world of Magalan, having settled down and started a family after assisting the Free Peoples plight previously. I’m pretty sure the reactions are going to be just the same.ĮLEX II is an open-world sci-fi fantasy RPG that follows on from the events of the previous game. It would be a bit strange then if ELEX II were to buck that trend. While some find an endearing ambition and ingenuity in its games, others are unable to see past the layers of grimy technical issues. It maintains a cult-like following for its particular flavor of jank-ridden RPGs such as Risen, Gothic, and ELEX. Piranha Bytes is something of a divisive developer.
